The Revenant

Updated: Jan 28, 2022

The Revenant is a 2015 American epic Revisionist Western survival drama film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. It is on Michael Punke's 2002 novel of the same name. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Hugh Glass, Tom Hardy as John Fitzgerald, Domhnall Gleeson as Andrew Henry, and Will Poulter as Jim Bridger

The story follows Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio), who while exploring the wilderness, who encounters a bear and sustains life-threatening injuries from being attacked by it, while his young son (Forrest Goodluck) was killed by a member of his own hunting party(Tom Hardy). Grief ridden and fuelled by vengeance. Glass seeks to track down the man who betrayed him.

The Revenant is a tragic story; however, it is also a very strong one at that. As it displays the torturous journey the main protagonist takes to get back home, his sheer force of will and taste for vengeance is easily one moral we can in a way see and understand as to why this is a great movie. Leonardo DiCaprio plays the character so well, that one cannot help by feel so immersed and invested into this character. No wonder he won his first ever Oscar for best actor in this film.

Those who love watching and Western Frontier Adventure movies and love survival movies would definitely love this. For one the beautiful American frontier scenery really captures the natural aesthetics of the time of the 1800s and of nature.

In my opinion, this is one of the best movies I have ever watched. The cinematography is breath-taking. DiCaprio’s amazing performance perfectly contrasted with Tom Hardy. The tension, doubt, and fear, give me a deep sense of what this journey was like for the protagonist.

Without a doubt, I would recommend this movie to anyone, as it is a masterpiece, full of emotion, anger, and beauty at the end of the day. An easy 10/10 Nested eggs right here.
