Flashback to the time when I was younger, the clock strikes 8 o'clock, I would be glued in front of the television to watch the Doraemon series every Saturday. What make it even better is that, it is on weekend! Hence, any movies related to Doraemon is a must to watch for me, since it brings a fond memory of my childhood. Doraemon Stand By Me 2, that was launched in 2021, is a sequel for its first movie that was launched in 2015, Doraemon Stand by Me. Just like its first movie, the main protagonists for this movie remained the same, which are Doraemon, Nobita Nobi, Shizuka Nobi/Minamoto, Takeshi Goda(Giant), Suneo Honekawa, and this time around, these are the additional characters that are also being focused on in this movie, Nobita’s grandmother, Akiko Takamura and Nobita’s parent, Tamako Nobi and Nobisuke Nobi.
Diving into the movie, what makes Doraemon Stand By Me 2 is different that its first movie is that, the directors of this movie actually did a great job in involving Nobita's character into someone more dependable and mature. In the movie, it starts with a scene where Nobita, as usual, is being scolded by his mother, Tamako Nobi, for not showing his exam result. He started to feel underappreciated for frequently being scolded, and he told Doraemon that he suspected he is not their real son. He stumbled upon an old photo album of his late grandmother, Akiko Takamura, who is very dear to him, as she is very caring and never scolded him. He then, went to the past to meet his grandmother using Doraemon's time machine. Once they are there, Akiko instantly recognized him, and requested that she wanted to meet his soon-to-be bride. The following scene of this story will be full of emotional journey and taught Nobita many meaningful experiences. Oh, and not to mention about what happened during adult Nobita's wedding ceremony, nightmare!
From my point of view, the movie mainly wanted to portray about maturity, appreciating people who are dear to you, and acceptance. Moreover, I also learn that we should always accept ourselves as a whole, and we should always appreciate those who are dear to us while they are still breathing next to us, because, it is a fact that time can never be reversed and what happened in the past will always remained in the past. There is no use regretting for not doing your best, and just keep doing your best in the present.
I think this movie is a very family-friendly movie, where not only kids can enjoy but adults too. The kids might enjoy this movie as an entertainment, while the adults would definitely appreciate the message that was trying to be conveyed by this movie. Don't forget to bring your popcorn(and tissue just in case), and enjoy this movie during a family movie night.
Although I do think that this movie is great, I still do stand with the thinking that when it comes to giving an emotional impact, I do think that the first movie did way better. However, in any other ways, the first movie and its sequel can't be compared, since they did deliver a different story plots and messages from the movies.
