The Witch Part 1:The Subversion (2018)



Directed by Park Hoonjung, “The Witch” is a story about an extraordinary girl born with special, inhumane super power growing up trying to fit in the typical world. A young girl, Jayoon (played by Kim Dami) running away from her gory life - black-ops arm of the government that murders who were after her and murders everyone in their sight. She later flees to a nearby farm, body full with blood, when a farmer and his family adopted her.




Ten years later, the family struggled with financial crisis plus her adoptive mother being ill with dementia, at the same time she herself suffering with constant splitting headaches. Then, her best friend, Myunghee (played by Ko Minshi) helped her out to enter into a national televised talent show to get the money. The plot twist comes when a mysterious yet familiar boy named Gongja (played by Choi Wooshik) and Professor Baek (played by Cho Minsoon), the cold-stoned head of the government program that has been hunting Jayoon since she was little.




The plot deepens after professor Baek reveals the dark truths of the government program - Gongja, where they experiment on a number of children to alter their brains(including Jayoon) into becoming violent superhumans. Director Park unfolds the true nature of this film, where Jayoon uncovering her identity as the the most virulent superhuman created by the program except she is too lost in revenge. Just like the film’s title, Park painted Jayoon as a sociopath, a hidden witch who likes seeking exhilaration in cracking other people's bones and limbs.
