Rock and “Rampage”

Updated: Jan 28, 2022

Rampage is a 2018 American science fiction monster film directed by Brad Peyton and stars Dwayne Johnson as Davis Okoye, Malin Åkerman as Claire Wyden, Naomie Harris as Kate Caldwell, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Harvey Russell . The story is based on the video game series of the same name. It follows a primatologist, Davis Okoye who teams up with George, an albino western lowland gorilla, who turns into a raging creature of enormous size because of a rogue experiment, to stop two other mutated animals from destroying Chicago.

The theme of the movies is largely, I say largely with no pun intended, based of giant monster creatures, the start out as regular normal sized animals, who after being exposed to certain chemicals with mixed up DNA, start to grow enormously, while also gaining different traits from other animals. However, towards the end of the movie, we didn’t really understand what was the main antagonist’s objective, as the plot does not really conclude well.

If you are a fan of Godzilla or King Kong you might find this move entertaining, as it has big monsters, destruction, or shall I say “Rampaging” of cities and of innocent people. It's not a good film; it's a supremely silly one if anything. As this movie has got a lot of cheesy jokes, mediocre clichés, and dialogues. With Dwayne Johnson, playing as former US Army SF turned primatologist, with him acting as a typical muscle head, who uses force to get what he wants, which is surprisingly entertaining at the end of the day in my opinion.

I would probably not really recommend this movie, if you are expecting something like Godzilla Vs Kong, ironically, this movie does have a primate fight a reptile at the end though. With that said, I would say it is not a bad movie, and you will enjoy it, as it is cheesy, and fun to watch. I would however only give it a 5/10 nested eggs.
